If you have got a relatively large backyard, maybe you have been thinking of ways to make it more interesting. Sometimes when you sit out there your mind drifts to thoughts of landscape design with pools, stone benches to sit on, and cleverly arranged trees that give you the most privacy you can expect in the city.
A big lawn is a wonderful thing, to be sure, but it’s just so flat and simple looking. The little creek that flows at the bottom of your garden would be easy to divert and send around your yard, and maybe that’s the kind of thing you are interested in doing.
Imagine that. A thin, gurgling stream winding its way across your garden, gurgling happily as it passes by flower beds and decorative stone features. Perhaps you can buy some footbridges made of stone to go over the water course. The idea of transforming your back yard into a miniature countryside is very exciting.
It will be very important to plan this sort of job carefully. Make sure that there are no local ordinances which may prohibit you from changing the grade of your land or from diverting that stream. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on a designer and the project only to find out that what you have done is strictly speaking illegal.
Some people are happy to just set out some nicely arranged trees and flower beds. Other people are more ambitious and have grand intentions to alter the very ground upon which they stand.
From the simplest questions of which grass to use to the more intense projects involving earth moving machinery, landscape design is a very robust field. There is almost nothing else that has the potential to change the way a house looks to such a degree.
