It is possible to tell how old a tree is by the rings inside its core. If it is chopped down and the number of rings is counted, it is safe to assume that total is how many years the tree has been growing.
A small group in one spot is known as a grove, regardless of the type of tree. Many trees together is called a forest. They can grow to be any size, with innumerable branches and offshoots. It is safe to assume the number of leaves differs from tree to tree, just as the size and shape of those leaves is different.
We use them today is many different ways. They have, for many years, been used to make paper pulp. They are cut down to make canoes and floating rafts. They are also cut down for cooking and warmth.
While some have no adornments other than beautiful multicolored leaves, others will bear fruit or blossom with beautiful flowers. Others are meant to provide shade and beauty, such as the Weeping Willow, a very fast growing tree. Many people plant them around lakes and streams because of their dramatic appearance. It is also a tree that helps prevent soil erosion.
Our Earth is supplied with fresh oxygen because of the amount of healthy trees we still have growing on it. They give us protection from a bright and burning sun, give us shade in which to cool off, and give us the materials to cook our food and to stay warm. Recycling efforts have ensured that we will continue to be able to use them for many years to come.
